how do most of you now feel about the military?

was not sure where to post this, but i was curious, how do some of you now feel about the military?

would any of you let your children enlist, or would you yourselves join any military field?

how do you feel about the idea of women in the military?

Personally, I couldn't ever join the military. I do see a use for it in this world though. I really can't accept the idea of killing someone. Just not in my nature. Self defense is one thing, but being your objective....no way! I also couldn't accept one of my children doing so. But, and this is a big but! I would respect that decision if they would chose to do so. After being in a high control group for so many years, I can't allow my own personal opinions to trump that of someone else.

As for women serving side by side with men in a combat zone? When bullets start whirling around your head, I don't see a difference if the person next to me is a woman, white, black, gay, Muslim....as long as they got my back, I am good...

Quality of JW teaching from elders

there was a recent thread on the "quality" of converts to jws in recent years.

it wasn't a pretty picture, based on the thread contents.. well, the lack of depth isn't restricted to new converts.. in our clam this week, one of the principal points for review was this:.

ne 1:1; 2:1—why can we conclude that “the 20thyear” mentioned at nehemiah 1:1 and 2:1 is countedfrom the same starting point?

the netherlands has recognized the church of the flying spagetti monster as an official religion !!.

i am so tempted to join it openly, and see what the reaction of the jw's is, surely they should df me for joining another religion?.

but how silly would that make them look !

JW's Funerals, Forget About The Person! Let's Preach.

god forbid you would talk about the dead person at his funeral.

so what do most people get after living 70-80 years?.

a 5-10 minutes eulogy.

The more I look back at my mom who died some 10 years ago, I think she was 'awake' to what was going on in the WT. She only wanted a simple service done at the funeral home for her family. We had pictures, played a video highlight clip of her life, and had some of her family say a few words. After which, I read Rev. 21:3,4 and talked briefly about our hope of seeing her again in Paradise. After that, we played "Life without End at Last" and I said a prayer. I was told by one of the 'friends' that attended that it was the most beautiful funeral discourse she had ever been to.

In my old congregation, we had a MTS brother who was an alpha male, and married an alpha female. Top dogs indeed. Immediately after them, there was a large extended family (multiple congregations) who were second tier. Hell, even their disfellowshipped family members were treated like royalty. After that, everyone else fell into 'theocratic' order...

Who really is assigned the Congregation Charity Tax return in the congregation?

i have this poor friend that has so much to do.as an account servant.

i recently noticed that he got additional work loaded on his back by the secretary who told him that it was his responsibility to fill this register charity form return.. i remember from long ago that this was a job that the secretary had to do, but can't find it in writing.

does anyone have anything in writting on it?.

As the Account Servant, I use to do all things financial. That included doing anything that involved taxes. Of coarse, our congregation Elders were not the sharpest tools in the shed. Our Secretary, up to the time I went inactive, was not too bright. He was actually a VERY nice fellow, just wasn't good with numbers or paperwork. I still can't figure out why he was the Secretary. But, Yeah....in my experience, it was up to the account servant.

Need advice on fade...

the elder that was the coordinator of the boe has just left town to attend one of those infamous schools with this wife.

the view is that he will most likely return to be appointed co. not sure he is going to stick around here for a lot longer.. i am saying this because, despite them knowing he will return when the school is over, they removed him from the coordinator position and appointed someone else.

it was announced last night that the biggest jerk of the group of elders is now the coordinator of the boe.

My advice....live your life the way you want and don't worry about them. They only hold power over you if you let them.

Rivalry among the sisters

when i was first introduced to the "truth", i was so distracted by the love and affection that the members were showing me that i was ready to convert into the religion without thinking twice.

i was conviced that jws were god's people (i still think some of them are).

i made it my goal to get baptized as i wanted to be part of the "only" religion that produce such good people.

My sister says (and still does) that she never had a 'real' friend in the Hell. She says the sisters are superficial and that makes it hard to have a real friendship with them. I remember, gosh, must have been 8 years ago that she was in a real funk. The reason? A sister who she thought was her best friend just decided one day she was not a 'good' associate because she went to see a pg-13 movie. The kicker...she went behind my sisters back, gossiped to everyone about her to the point a couple of Elders had a talk with her. My sister was devastated. The best thing...the movie she went to was attended by myself, another brother who was an elder, his wife, and another Ministerial Servant. None of us was questioned.

My point....the 'cattiness' by the sisters is something that is real. I remember even a few Servants meetings where the issue was brought up concerning sisters. Usually ending in someone cracking a joke about 'her time of the month' or something like that...

Can't Understand Why This Is Allowed

i moved to roseburg, oregon.

the jehovah's witnesses are allowed to set up a display and man it right outside of the local library, and they are there every day and hour the library is open.

i am [redacted], the director of the douglas county library system and wanted to respond to your website email of december 11, 2015. i have consulted with the county attorneys office about your concern about jehovahs witnesses use of the front porch of the library building in roseburg, and my understanding of the law is as follows.. .

Like it or not, they view it as freedom of speech. As such, they will not 'infringe' that freedom of the Witnesses. I would suggest if that irritates you, you can always set up your own Anti Witnessing cart as previously suggested. Or, if you are active in another religion, have them set up their own.
